Domestic Violence is a violation of basic human rights that affects people in all social, economic, racial, religious and ethnic groups.
Domestic violence is NOT a result of:
- Poor communication skills,
- Stress; anger,
- Addiction,
- Mental illness,
- Financial status,
- Unemployment,
- Other persons’ behavior, or,
- External events.
The roots of domestic violence are firmly embedded in sexism and other ideologies of group oppression.
The solution to domestic violence will be accomplished through social and political change, not through individual change alone.
